Why Does India Create So Many Entrepreneurs?

Incredible India
India is an intriguing country, is seems that the majority of people who have not visited the sub continent would like to. In the 1960’s and 70’s the country was the centre of spiritualism with Pop stars spending time “finding themselves” with the Maharishi or some other Guru.
Today India is fast becoming an economic force; India has one very major export to the rest of the world, entrepreneurs. When you look at the world’s wealthiest people a very high proportion of them are Indian or Indian descent.
How has this come about, there are several possible reasons that can be expounded.
Competition, In India competition for jobs, seats on trains, places in universities is very fierce; anyone who has visited the country will experience this facet of the Indian nature. This competition also extends to business transactions.
Population, in a country which has theoretically 1.1 billion people, with a middle class having more people than the whole of the USA, it is fair to say that on a percentage basis, China and India should have the greatest number. I would like to point out that according to knowledgeable Indian academics; the population of India is nearer 1.5 Billion, but the lack of registration of Births and Taxation in remote areas results in many people being missed in the census. A further clarification is on the definition of Middle Class, in India this is defined by someone owning certain items such as a motorcycle or air conditioning.
Education, Unlike many Western societies, education is valued very highly in the sub continent; proud parents deny themselves many items that would be considered normal to send their offspring to a college to study. Quite rightly, this is a wise investment, although in India it seems that the thirst for knowledge is very strong, everyone realizes how important education is to success in life. Unfortunately there is a wide range of colleges and prices, not all these institution prepare the student successfully for their chosen role in life.
Frugality, Most Indian people are frugal compared to many other countries, when day workers earn two to four dollars per day for their labour they have to be frugal, the value of money is apparent to virtually all Indians and the negotiation that often takes place even for the smallest item also transfers to large items, the purchase of capital equipment and businesses.
Optimism, The Indian people as a nation are extremely optimistic compared to Western cultures, this does not necessarily mean happy, although many times Indians do not see problems in completing tasks, usually there are problems that other people would prepare for and see miles away but the Indians are a very stoic nation, they will overcome on a step by step basis until they have a successful outcome.
It is possible there are many other considerations in what creates India’s entrepreneurs such as the Cast System, Religion, Genes but it is a considerable asset to the sub continent to have produced and continue producing so many successful business people.
